“What’s your favorite movie?” At first it seems
like a fairly simple question, an innocent question, an easy question. Except,
that it’s not. Because, unless you’re twelve, it’s very difficult to come up
with an answer. At least, it is for me. My response always changes. There are
just too many choices. How can a gal choose just one? There are movies that I’ve
loved since I was a kid, movies that I love because they’re funny or simple or
sad, movies that I love because they star Orson Welles, and uhhhh . . . hel-lo,
Orson Welles!! So, I’ve decided to create this questionnaire, a questionnaire
for all you folks out there who are unsatisfied with the standard “what’s your
favorite movie” question because, like me, you can’t ever seem to stop at just
one.
Favorite movie made before 1921.
A really bad movie that you really love.
Favorite French film from the sixties that doesn’t star Jeanne Moreau or was
directed by Francois Truffaut.
Movie you love because you loved the book.
Favorite film staring puppets.
Movie you’ve seen a million times, but would still watch over and over and over
again.
Favorite movie staring teenagers or actors pretending to be teenagers.
Movie you love because it scared the shit out of you.
Movie you love because it’s so damn pretty to look at.
Favorite film directed by Jim Jarmusch or Luis Bunuel.
Favorite movie staring Philip Seymour Hoffman or Peter Lorre.
Favorite film staring a man with a beard. (Please, note I wrote “man.” Freaks
is not an appropriate answer to this question.)
Favorite movie drawn by hand.
Favorite film that was “ruined” by evil studio executives.
Favorite Joan Crawford movie that you love because in this particular film she
doesn’t look anything like Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest.
Favorite foreign film that was later remade with English-speaking actors.
Movie you loved because you saw yourself in the
characters.
Film you love because it's open to interpretation.
A movie released within the past year that you loved.
A movie you would describe as “beautiful.”
